Y-GIVE (Youth Giving, Investing and Engaging) is the Hancock County Community Foundation’s board for youth ambassadors for philanthropy. The mission of Y-GIVE is to provide opportunities for students to grow in their appreciation of Hancock County and to strengthen the desire to enhance the community’s future through giving and service. The board is comprised of 16 members – four students from each Hancock County public high school. Students begin on the board their freshman year and continue to serve through graduation. In addition to the service project, these students assist with outreach for Imagination Library Giving Week and Celebrate Hancock County.
In place of a community-wide Fall service project, in light of COVID-19 restrictions at the schools, the 2020-21 Y-GIVE students provided a service within their own school grounds. NPHS students planted red tulip bulbs and purchased new solar lights for the entry to the high school.
EHHS students made cookies and provided “comfort baskets” for 12 non-certified staff members at their high school, in appreciation for their service to students during the pandemic.
