|We Don’t Know What We’d Do Without YouA Capital Campaign to Address the Growing Needs of Hancock County Citizens
Since 1978, Hancock County Senior Services, Inc., a community based, not-for-profit agency, has been providing comprehensive services, including transportation, to older and disabled residents of Hancock. In 2005, in response to the county’s great need for public transportation to citizens of all ages, Hancock Area Rural Transit was created to expand the transportation program of Hancock County Senior Services, Inc. to serve county residents under the age of 60.
Since that time, thousands of citizens have used our transportation services to go to medical appointments, shop for groceries, get to work, visit loved ones, and more. In 2010 alone, Hancock Area Rural Transit provided over 20,000 one way transportation trips to citizens living in all nine Hancock County townships.
As a result of this successful program, our fleet of vehicles and large transportation staff has outgrown our current facility at 312 E. Main Street, Greenfield. We have identified a property that will be spacious enough for a garage to house our transportation vehicles and ample space to accommodate our staff, programs, volunteer activities, provide parking, and expansion space to grow in the future. The cost for a new facility is $1.5 million, which includes cost for the land, building, moving expenses and furnishings to be located on Fields Boulevard, a site easily accessible from State Route 9 and Interstate 70.
