Hancock County Senior Services (HCSS) is a not-for-profit service organization advocating for and addressing the life challenges of our Hancock County senior population and providing public transportation for all. HCSS recently served in a one-year period, approximately 900 unique clients with over 16,000 hours of service. With the wide range of HCSS services, clients received:
-rides to work or the doctor
-help with their housekeeping
-assistance with their tax returns at no cost
-work outside in flower beds and trimming
Most of our clients are Hancock County residents 60 and over; however, we serve residents with disabilities under 60, and transportation is available to all Hancock County residents. Many clients are at or below the federal poverty guidelines, on fixed incomes, or working less than full time. Several clients are isolated from family or have none to help them navigate a difficult time in their lives. Our home services staff, drivers, dispatchers, and volunteers are a lifeline to those in our county who need help staying home and those who do not have reliable transportation readily available.
This fund provides operating support to HCSS in order that they may serve seniors, individuals with disabilities, and their families through the provision of non-medical support services, to allow individuals to maintain the greatest possible independence.
