The Hancock County Community Foundation (HCCF) recently awarded Purdue Extension – Hancock County, a $1,000 grant from HCCF’s Enrichment Fund, an unrestricted component fund of HCCF, for the Kindergarten 101 Program. Purdue Extension offers a variety of educational experiences on topics such as agricultural production, health nutrition, school readiness, life skills, environmental issues, and many more!
Kindergarten 101 is a school readiness initiative that was developed to make sure students are prepared for the first day of school. The program targets students that have not been in day care, preschool, or otherwise has a social experience to teach them to start school. The grant dollars awarded to the Hancock County Purdue Extension Office will be used to give a book to each child every day for the 5 day program. Purdue Extension hopes that by engaging families early, motivation for learning will increase and relationships with peers and teachers will strengthen.
