For the second year in a row, the Hancock County Community Foundation provided the services of the National Center for College Costs, creator of the College Costs Estimator online tool, to our area high schools at no cost. Led by President Dave Murray, the National Center for College Costs (NCCC) staff draws from a wide range of talents and expertise to help students and families plan and prepare for the often confusing and complicated processes of college admission, financial aid, and college transition.
One of the powerful services provided by NCCC is called FAFSA Day. HCCF granted $8,000 this year in order to provide a FAFSA Day at all four of our county’s high schools in February 2014 helping students navigate and complete the FAFSA just ahead of the deadline on March 10. Hancock County LINK also presented an additional FAFSA Day specifically for adults in February which was made possible by NineStar Connect. As a result of these investments, NCCC helped 142 Hancock County students discover that they are eligible for $517,217 federal and state grant dollars. HCCF is appreciative of the support of our high school administrators and the space, staff hours, and publicity they provided for these days. Watch for news about 2015 FASFA Days!!
