The Hancock County Community Foundation recently awarded Meals on Wheels of Hancock County a $2,000 grant from HCCF’s Enrichment Fund. The mission of Meals on Wheels of Hancock County is to help the citizens of Hancock County maintain an independent lifestyle through the delivery of nutritious meals in accordance with prescribed dietary needs and provide a point of personal contact with the community. The program encourages independence by helping senior citizens or disabled individuals stay in their homes as long as possible. In addition, it provides family members peace of mind knowing that their loved one is receiving a mid-day check in.
The grant dollars awarded to Meals on Wheels will help cover the meal costs for those individuals needing subsidies for their meals. Currently, 48% of Meals on Wheels’ clients request financial assistance. Approximately 60% of clients served have special diet needs due to health concerns. Without this program, many of the clients would be unable to live in their homes and many others would not eat nutritionally adequate meals. Programs like Meals on Wheels is essentional to the betterment of Hancock County.
HCCF works with caring individuals, families, and organizations to create or grow existing permanent funds called endowments. These funds generate income that is distributed in the form of grants and scholarships to enrich and enhance life in Hancock County, as well as support the donor’s favorite charitable causes, both at home and afar forever. HCCF has granted over $8.7 million since its inception in 1992.
